5 reasons Adam Mayor's Hibernian move makes sense

Adam Mayor's Millwall future changed quickly. One moment, the 21-year-old was preparing to prove himself during pre-season; the next, he was heading north to become Hibernian's fifth summer signing. The Edinburgh club have completed a permanent deal for the versatile left-sided player, paying an undisclosed fee to the Championship side. For Mayor, the move offers something he rarely found at The Den: a clear route to regular senior football.

How Events Unfolded

Millwall head coach Alex Neil initially planned to assess Mayor during the club's pre-season preparations in Spain. After a productive loan spell at Cambridge United, the winger was expected to receive an opportunity to compete for first-team minutes or secure another temporary move.

Cambridge wanted him back permanently after he made 34 appearances, scored three goals and provided four assists during their promotion-winning campaign. Millwall rejected the League Two club's approach, apparently leaving the door open for Mayor to continue his development in south London.

Hibernian then moved decisively. The Scottish Premiership club submitted an acceptable offer, entered advanced discussions and completed the permanent signing. The deal also ends a Millwall spell in which Mayor gained only limited senior opportunities.
