1 Trend Digest Privacy Policy

7 Your Trend Digest account
When you create an account, we store your email address, the display name you choose, a one-way hash of your password (never the password itself), your interface language and the date of the terms version you accepted.
Later, we store what you add or change in your account: a profile photo, your time zone, your preferred countries and categories, your notification and digest choices, and the date you last signed in.
We send a link to your email address to confirm that it is yours. The link works once and expires after 30 minutes. Password reset and email change links work the same way.
You can turn on two-factor authentication. We then store your authenticator secret encrypted and 10 single-use recovery codes as one-way hashes, and we ask for a code when you sign in and before sensitive actions.
8 Signing in with Posty5
If you choose Continue with Posty5, Posty5 sends us your account identifier for Trend Digest, your email address and whether Posty5 has verified it, your name, your profile picture and, when Posty5 provides it, how you signed in there. We never receive your Posty5 password, and we keep no Posty5 access token.
We use your name as your display name and, if you have no profile photo yet, we may copy your Posty5 picture to our storage. We keep the link between the two accounts, with the dates it was created and last used.
You can unlink Posty5 in your account settings. If Posty5 is your only way to sign in, set a password first. Unlinking or deleting your account removes the link on our side; to also remove Trend Digest from your Posty5 account, remove it under Connected apps in Posty5.
9 Sessions and security logs
Each time you sign in, we create a session. It records your IP address, your browser and device type (user agent), your country, and when the session started and was last used. You can see your sessions and sign them out in your account.
A session ends after 30 days without use, when you sign out, or when you sign it out from another device. We delete its record 30 days after it ends.
Security-relevant actions, including actions our staff take on accounts, are recorded in a security log with the IP address, country and browser. After 90 days we shorten the IP address so that it no longer identifies your connection, and we delete the entry after 2 years.
Everywhere else, for example in analytics, article feedback and contact messages, we keep only your country, never your IP address.
10 Your rights: exporting your data
You can download a copy of your data from the Data rights page of your account. To protect you, we ask you to confirm your identity first, and you can request one export every 24 hours.
The export is a ZIP file of JSON files, one for each part of the service that holds your data (for example your profile, sessions, saved articles, reading history, alerts, notifications, comments and credits), with a README file that explains them.
We email you when the file is ready. Each download link in your account works once, for 15 minutes, and we delete the file 7 days after it is ready.
11 Your rights: deleting your account
You can delete your account from the Data rights page of your account. Your account is deleted 14 days after your request. Until then you can cancel the request in your account, and signing in also cancels it. When you make the request, we sign you out on your other devices.
When the 14 days end, we delete your account, sessions, Posty5 link, reactions, saved articles, reading history, alerts, digests, notifications, browser push subscriptions, the emails we sent you, your contact messages, analytics data and preferences.
Your comments that have no replies are deleted. A comment that has replies stays in place as "[deleted]", without your name or its text, so that the conversation still makes sense.
We keep some records, without your name or email address, because the law or security requires it: payment, subscription and credit records for 7 years, and security log entries for 2 years. We also keep a one-way hash of your email address so that we never email it again.
An active subscription is cancelled when your account is deleted, without a refund for the remaining period. Deleting your account does not remove Trend Digest from your Posty5 account; see Signing in with Posty5.
12 Service providers we use
We use the following providers to run Trend Digest. Each one receives only the data it needs for its task:
- Cloudflare: hosting, content delivery, file storage and bot protection (Turnstile), and your country from your connection.
- Our email service provider: sending account, security and notification emails.
- Cookiebot: recording your cookie choices where consent is required.
- Google: Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to measure how the site is used, and Google AdSense to show ads, according to your cookie choices.
- Meta: the Facebook pixel to measure our campaigns, according to your cookie choices.
- Polar: payments for paid plans, as the merchant of record that processes your payment and billing details.
- Posty5: sign-in when you choose Continue with Posty5, and publishing our articles to social networks.
Our articles are drafted and checked with the help of AI services. They process news sources, not your account data.
13 The cookies we set
We set the following cookies ourselves. These are strictly necessary and cannot be turned off:
- __Host-td_at: keeps you signed in to your account. It expires after 15 minutes and is renewed while you use the site.
- __Secure-td_rt: renews your sign-in. It is sent only to our sign-in service and expires 30 days after you last used the site.
- __Host-td_oidc: protects signing in with Posty5. It expires after 10 minutes.
- td_consent: remembers your cookie choices in countries where the consent platform is not shown. It expires 395 days after it is set.
- td_adfree: tells the site not to show ads to members of a plan without ads. It expires after 30 days and is renewed while you are signed in.
The following depend on your choices:
- td_vid: a random visitor identifier for our own analytics, set only while analytics is allowed (in countries where we do not ask for consent first, until you turn it off). It expires 395 days after it is set, and we delete it when you withdraw your consent.
- Cookies of Google Analytics (_ga), the Facebook pixel (_fbp) and Google AdSense, set by those providers for measurement and ads.
Where consent is required, Cookiebot stores your choices in its own cookie. You can change your choices at any time with Manage cookie choices on the Cookie Policy page.
14 Spam and unwanted messages
We have taken the necessary steps to ensure that we comply with the CAN-SPAM law of 2003 by never sending misleading information.
